Optilight Treatment

OptiLight (often called OptiLight IPL) is a non-invasive light-based medical treatment used to manage dry eye disease, especially when caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) — the most common underlying cause of evaporative dry eye. It’s currently the first and only FDA-approved intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy specifically for dry eye management.

🔍 How OptiLight Works
OptiLight uses intense pulsed light (IPL) — bursts of broad-spectrum light energy — carefully delivered to the skin near the eyelids:

✅ Unclogs Meibomian glands: The heat from the light helps melt and clear blockages in the meibomian glands, improving oil flow into the tear film.
✅ Reduces inflammation: Targets tiny blood vessels and inflammatory mediators contributing to chronic inflammation around the eyelids.
✅ Improves tear film stability: By enhancing gland function and reducing irritation, it increases tear break-up time, helping tears last longer before evaporating.
✅ Antimicrobial effect: May reduce bacteria and Demodex mites on lash margins that can worsen blepharitis.
